Health & Safety Policy

Health & Safety Policy

CW Dance is committed to providing a safe environment for all participants, parents, and staff during dance classes, events, and activities.

This policy applies to all classes and sessions provided by CW Dance

---

1. Responsibility

The business owner and lead teacher, Caitlin Wood, is responsible for ensuring that health and safety standards are met and maintained.

All staff, volunteers, and helpers must follow this policy and report any health and safety concerns immediately.

---

2. Venue Safety

Classes take place at approved venues that meet basic safety standards.

The venue should be free from hazards such as wet floors, obstacles, or unsafe equipment.

Any safety concerns or hazards must be reported to the venue staff and the dance school immediately.

---

3. Supervision

Children are supervised at all times during classes.

For toddler sessions, parents or carers must remain present and are responsible for their child throughout the session.

Children will only be released to a parent, guardian, or authorised adult.

---

4. Clothing & Footwear

Participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the style of dance:

Contemporary

Barefoot or appropriate dance socks

Leggings or jogging bottoms that do not exceed the ankle

A fitted top, or a top that is not excessively loose, or a leotard

Breathable fabrics where possible

Spandex or stretch fabrics are encouraged

Street Dance

Trainers with sufficient grip

Fitted tracksuits, fitted joggers, or leggings

Fitted hoodies

Oversized t-shirts or normal t-shirts

Breathable fabrics where possible

Jewellery should not be worn during classes for safety reasons.

---

5. Medical Information & Injuries

Parents and guardians must inform the teacher of any medical conditions, injuries, or additional needs that may affect participation.

If a child becomes unwell during class, the parent or guardian will be contacted and the child may be asked to sit out or be collected.

In the event of an injury, first aid will be provided where necessary and recorded.

If an injury is serious or requires medical attention, emergency services will be contacted.

---

6. Emergency Procedures

Emergency contact details must be provided for each child.

In the event of an emergency, the teacher will follow the venue’s emergency procedures and contact emergency services if required.

Parents or guardians will be informed as soon as possible.

---

7. Covid-19 and Infectious Illness

Participants should not attend classes if they are unwell or showing symptoms of an infectious illness.

If a participant becomes unwell during class, they will be asked to leave and rest at home.

We reserve the right to follow venue guidelines or government advice regarding illness and safety.

---

8. Behaviour and Safety

Participants are expected to follow instructions and behave respectfully.

Any unsafe behaviour may result in the child being asked to sit out or, in serious cases, removed from the class.

Bullying or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.

---

9. Parent/Carer Responsibility

Parents/carers must ensure children arrive on time and are collected promptly.

Parents/carers must inform the teacher of any medical needs, injuries, or relevant information before class.

Parents/carers remain responsible for toddlers during sessions.

---
